Dancers spend a good deal of time moving rapidly about the stage, or springing if you will, and the dancers of State Street Ballet are very good at it. Give them some exciting choreography and they leap into it combining superb technique with convincing acting skills. Such was the case with Edgar Zendejas’s new “Rite of Spring” at the Granada Theatre February 18th. Edgar certainly qualifies as an exciting choreographer with a special talent for making thrillingly physical ensemble work and original partnering that works so well at creating story and atmosphere. Following the themes set forth in Nijinsky’s original his new piece transports the audience into a mysterious world of rituals and human interactions. A tour de force!
