Late Works

Jonathan Biss and the Brentano Quartet are no strangers to Santa Barbara audiences, but I’m pretty sure they haven’t appeared here together before. The premise for the collaboration is to explore the works of great composers written near the end of their lives, a time of summing up accumulated knowledge and experience, and facing mortality. For Mr. Biss, these “Late Works” represent the deepest and most moving expressions of their art. The CAMA “Masterseries” concert focussed on Ludwig van Beethoven and featured his last sonata for violin & piano, his final solo piano piece and the final string quartet.
