Temagog, Australia native Joe Robinson switched from piano to guitar at age nine and he’s been burning up the frets ever since. He’s picked up numerous awards along the way, including Australia’s Got Talent winner at 17, Senior Grand Champion Performer of the World winner in the World Championships of Performing Arts in Hollywood at 18, voted Guitar Player magazine Readers’ Poll Best New Talent at 19. He’s released 4 albums and 2 EPs and toured extensively performing around the globe, from Nashville to Tokyo. Incredible chops, award-winning songwriting and a repertoire ranging from the Beatles to his own blues/jazz/country/rock compositions make him a an entertainer of rare depth and calm assurance. He happened to be on the west coast before heading to Australia and dropped by the Lobero for the December iteration of Sings Like Hell, performing a blazing set that included a country/rap about his humble home town. Second up were the Quebe Sisters hailing Dallas, TX, performing their triple fiddle and sweet 3 part vocal harmonies, western swing that really swung. And these gals have some pretty sophisticated musical taste, raving about jazz pianist Brad Mehldau’s recent stunning solo show at the Lobero, which they made a special trip to catch. All of which once again proves that Hell is the best place to see and hear an eclectic lineup of the best music you (may) have never heard.
