Neil Simon certainly did in his autobiographical play “Chapter Two.” After the death of his wife Joan, Mr. Simon began the second chapter of his life when he met actress Marsha Mason. They quickly fell in love and married. In the play, George Schneider is the Neil Simon character and his life is changed the same way when his brother Leo sets him up with an actress named Jennie. Carrying the “art imitating life” meme further, the 1979 movie version of the play stars Marsha Mason as Jennie. This being a Neil Simon play, there are plenty of one-liners, but it is also a sentimental play, in the best sense of that word. Ensemble Theatre Co. has assembled 4 fine actors for their upcoming production of this very funny and poignant work about the mating game on the second go ’round.
