When guitars ruled the stage.

The exceedingly talented members of the Los Angeles Guitar Quartet are not only fretboard wizards, but they are also great adventurers. They have graced the stage of the Lobero Theatre numerous times, perhaps most memorably in a rollicking musical version of Don Quixote with John Cleese as narrator. This time, they were presented as part of the Lobero Jazz series and after intermission they put their unique stamp on Miles Davis’s Blue in Green and John Coltrane’s Giant Steps before launching into the west coast premiere of a six part suite written for them by Pat Metheny titled Road to the Sun. Their interplay is magical and whatever kind of music these guys dig into, the results are always thrilling.
