This has to be one of the most out there productions of Shakespeare’s “Julius Caesar” ever, so it must be from Lit Moon. How do you add a Lou Reed-ish musical score, a Finnish speaking soothsayer and a minimal/flexible set to this evergreen work and stay true to the bard’s original? Ask John Blondell and the wizards of the “Moon.” Set in a militaristic time not unlike our own, this play digs deeply into the disasterous consequences brought on by ambitious soldier/politicians and their blind and changeable followers, and it questions the very meaning of democracy and the legitimacy of rulers. Apropos for these troubles times, no?
