Igor’s Stravinsky’s music was controversial to say the least, but out of chaos a new era for classical music was born. Santa Barbara Symphony Maestro and Artistic Director Nir Kabaretti has chosen to feature two works by this giant of twentieth century music for the November concert: “Rite of Spring” and “The Soldier’s Tale.” Most people are familiar with the piece that put Stravinsky on the map, but not so much with the story of a soldier who makes a bargain with the devil, trading his violin (and his soul) for unlimited riches. An unusual work featuring a narrator, actors and dancers to portray the story, Christopher Lloyd will be the narrator joined by actors from Ensemble Theatre Company directed by Ensemble’s Jonathan Fox, and dancers from State Street Ballet will perform new choreography by William Soleau. This promises to be an exciting concert of groundbreaking music and great storytelling and dancing. Who could ask for more? November 17 & 18 at the beautiful Granada Theatre. Tickets: 805-899-2222
