Day 9: as passersby stop to watch through the open stage doors, Doug Varone and Dancers are having fun and working hard. Now that’s a good recipe for successful creative ventures and the Danceworks vibe at the Lobero in week two is definitely working its magic as this company are in a playful mood and making big strides giving birth to their new work “Somewhere.” Joking for the camera about imaginary tensions and having lots of laughs gets everyone ready and pumped to get into the lead-up to Doug’s take on Leonard Bernstein’s “Rumble” from the orchestral score to “West Side Story.” Mr. Varone’s inspiration and the collaborative nature of their working m.o. is abundantly in evidence as the company adds new moves to each section, always grounded in the thrilling music.
