Together Again: Dancin’ and Singin’

State Street Ballet and the Santa Barbara Choral Society have collaborated numerous times since shortly after the Granada Theatre re-opened it’s doors in 2008 after an extensive makeover. “Carmina Burana” was performed in May of that year and was a huge success, melding the thrilling music of Carl Orff, SSB co-artisitic director William Soleau’s choreography and the Choral Society’s vocal power and orchestra under the baton of director Jo Anne Wasserman. It worked so well that these two Santa Barbara treasures have collaborated several times since, sometimes with the addition of the Santa Barbara Symphony, including a re-staging “Carmina Burana” in 2015. Now we come to SSB’s Silver Anniversary season and “American Legends” which will fill the Granada’s stage with dancers, singers and orchestra for a program of Leonard Bernstein’s “Chichester Psalms,” Morten Lauridsen’s “Lux Aeterna” and Aaron Copeland’s “Appalachian Spring,” all with choreography by William Soleau, the first two being premieres. One night only, 7:30 pm Saturday, October 12. Tickets: Granada Theatre.
