Some Loose Ends, Part 1

Some things I missed posting about from April and May, beginning with this:

Celebrating their 2oth anniversary, Silkroad Ensemble presented the world premiere of “Heroes Take Their Stand” at Santa Barbara’s Granada Theatre on April 26th. A new multi-media extravaganza co-comissioned by UCSB Arts & Lectures, this wide-ranging, visually and musically enthralling production presents the stories of five literary and historic heroes, including Elektra from Greek myth, Arjuna from an epic Hindu poem, and Martin Luther King Jr. Five sets of composers, directors and designers collaborated on the five pieces featuring huge projected animations and calligraphy, different groupings of SRE musicians and for Arjuna’s story, the dancing of choreographer Aparna Ramaswamy. A magical and immersive celebration of “…normal individuals who choose to act or react in ways that spare others’ lives or right profound injustices — and their acts offer enduring inspiration for us all.”
