As Doug Elkins and dancers wrap up week 2 of their DANCEWORKS residency, the work of creating, rehearsing and refining phrases and sequences that will coalesce into “Kinsugi” continues apace. Duets with Japanese fans are an integral part of this exciting new work, filled with graceful intertwinings (threading), dramatic snapping open of the fans and some downright sexy dancing, all to some pretty intriguing music. There’s even an element of samurai “swordplay,” a stylistically perfect juxtaposition for the intricate complexities of the dance of love. “Kintsugi” will premiere Sept. 7 & 8 at the Lobero Theatre along with 10th anniversary appearances by all the DANCEWORKS alumni.
