If variety is the spice of life, then UCSB’s Fall Dance Concert was evidence that life in the Theater Dance Department is very well seasoned. The eclectic program featured choreography by faculty members Monique Meunier, Valerie Huston, Christopher Pilafian (re-staged by Continuing Lecturer Nancy Colahan) as well as BFA candidate Kelly O’Conner, and Assistant Professor Brian Whited’s re-staging of the signature Shen Wei Dance Arts work “Re-III” and Professor Emerita Alice Condodina’s re-staging of excerpts from José Limon’s “The Unsung.” The evening began with dancers piled in front of a strangely beautiful recycled water bottle tree followed by a stunning virtuoso solo by alumna Lauren Serrano, energy filled precision group dances, pas des deux and a solo with projections of works by Matisse. Concert Director (and faculty member) Christina McCarthy put together a varied and tasty presentation showcasing the depth and breadth of this talented group of artists.
