Prince Rama has some big-time problems. First, he and his wife Sita have been exiled from his home by his scheming stepmother. Then Sita is kidnapped by the evil King Ravana and absconded to Lanka. The all powerful Ravana can’t be killed by gods, demons or spirits, and he pretty much runs amok at will. So, how can Rama rescue his beloved? Call in the monkeys, who can fly and are not on the can’t-kill-him list. This epic Sanskrit tale made pretty heady material for teen thespians to tackle, and the participants in BOXTALES Theatre Company’s Summer Camp for Teens were up for the task. Employing BTC’s bag of theatrical tricks to make a fast-paced and imaginative distillation of a classical tale that ran to 24,000 verses, and obviously inspiring the kids, Michael Andrews and Matt Tavianini brought another great bit of theater filled with life lessons and derring-do to the stage of the Marjorie Luke. And, they gave the kids a summer they’ll long remember.
