Leos Janacek’s “The Cunning Little Vixen” is a sort of comic tragedy originally based on a Czech daily comic strip and features lush music based on Czech folk themes. Opera Santa Barbara’s production is set in a fantastical forest of giant flowers and creatures abound, from a frog and a hedgehog to hilarious chickens, while the hapless humans are (mostly) outfoxed throughout. It’s colorful and silly with a serious side too.
