How Much Can You Do With Four strings?

If you are Jake Shimabukuru, a heck of a lot! Arts & Lectures made it possible for 18 lucky aficionados of the seemingly humble ukulele to get some invaluable tips during a masterclass at Campbell Hall preceding his concert. Starting with different strumming techniques and how they can affect the sound and emotion of what you are playing, he also touched on some of the electronic gizmos he uses during performances, answered questions and demonstrated some of his amazing chops. Plus, he gave some backstory to his love affair with the uke. There’s much more to the ukulele, and Jake Shimabukuru, than Hawaiian hula dance music. It was a fascinating and fun class, even for one who doesn’t play the little dynamo with “only” four strings.
