How It’s Done

Dance requires a lot of hard work, repetition and constantly pushing beyond your comfort zone to perfect. As we watch the artists of Kate Weare Company and Union Tanguera teach each other the finer points of their respective artistic vocabularies it’s obvious that there is a lot of humor and joy mixed in with the physical and mental labors. Here a short phrase is gone over and over until the proper techniques are absorbed into the dancers’ sinew and brain cells to become part of their personal repertoire of dance language. Meanwhile choreographers Kate Weare and Estaban Moreno are thinking about what this new work will become as they get into the second week of DANCEworks 2017. It’s fascinating to see the similarities and differences of approach year to year as new and diverse works develop, but the same hard work is always the key ingredient for  creating a new and exciting piece of performance art.
