Holiday Traditions

The Santa Barbara Choral Society’s “Hallelujah Project” took to the Lobero stage for a 6th time and is now firmly established as one of the Holiday traditions in our fair city. There is a full orchestra, a soloist or soloists (Tyler Reese this year) and the 73 member SBCS Chorus (natch) joined for a few numbers by a youth chorus.; This year, the Goleta Valley Jr. High Chorus had the honor. In addition to the nearly obligatory sing-along for Handel’s Hallelujah chorus, there are interesting and original takes on holiday music ranging from humorous to delightful, Christmas to Channukah, and more. The highlight for kids young and old is the dramatic celebrity reading of “‘Twas the Night Before Christmas,” (Angela Cartwright this year) with orchestral accompaniment and a visit from the jolly old elf. If you like to be steeped in some of the more sublime aspects of the season, next year check out this new tradition at the Lobero Theatre.
