Each August Santa Barbara artist Susanna Vapnek throws a special Fiesta party for friends and family who have the pleasure of eating a spectacular gourmet dinner prepared by Mexico based international food and wine writer, bon vivant and sometime chef Nils Bernstein. The high point of the festivities for the kids each year is a candy-filled piñata to destroy, helping to focus some of their exuberant energy that builds as the evening progresses. The adults were treated to Mr. Bernstein’s menu of Mexico-themed delights, from beet salad tostadas, to tuna tartare and shrimp with local Harry’s Berries, roast pork with pink mole, and the main attraction of local Red Snapper with a “flag” salad in the Mexico’s national colors, green, white and red. For the fourth year in a row, a grand time was had by all!
