Or bang the drum. Almost all performing arts organizations have an outreach component to foster interest and appreciation in school-age children, and the Santa Barbara Symphony is no exception. It has long-running and highly regarded programs such as Concerts for Young People and the Music Van, which gives children the opportunity to try their hand at playing orchestral instruments. A hybrid of the two took place on Saturday at the Granada Theatre – a Family Concert featuring Prokoviev’s Peter and the Wolf, narrated by master story teller Michael Katz. Kids who arrived early were treated to the opportunity to make a joyful noise of their own, courtesy of the volunteers who run the Music Van.
