As was shown about a year ago at the Lobero Theatre, when you put Charles Lloyd, Bill Frisell, Greg Leisz, Reuben Rogers and Eric Harland on that stage for an hour, add the jazz/country/pop/rock/and something else ingredients these master musicians bring to the mix and let ’em loose, you get the Marvels. Then bring on Lucinda Williams’s smokey, sultry voice and kick it up a notch to amplify the revelation: eclectic styles and sensibilities can blend for a mighty fine performance. Over the course of an evening that ranged from Calypso to Dylan, it was synergy at its most enlightening and surprising. This being the Lobero, it was sonically pretty marvelous too!
