New York’s Ballet Hispanico is dedicated to promoting and educating about latin dance in it’s myriad forms from the many Spanish speaking countries around the world with outreach to young students and vibrant, colorful performances. Viva el Arte de Santa Barbara brought this company to the greater SB area for a weeklong residency that included visits to elementary schools and free performances. Students were treated to a little history and a demonstration by talented company dancers of the passionate and inspiring latin dance forms like flamenco, plus more modern interpretations of others, all grounded in ballet technique and training. The kids were enthralled and asked some very good questions at the end. It was obvious Ballet Hispanico hit the mark with their exciting presentation.
