Two award-winning young virtuoso artists who are accomplished soloists and recitalists make a pretty fine duo: Augustin Hadelich playing a beautiful sounding Stradivari and Joyce Yang more than complementing on Steinway and upright piano. Their CAMA Santa Barbara concert last Tuesday at the Lobero Theatre following their first recording together, released this Fall. A varied and very interesting program featured a sprightly Beethoven sonata for violin & piano, a recent work by Brett Dean (featuring the distinct sound of the upright), and another sonata for violin & piano by César Franke. There was also a sonata for solo violin by Eugene Ysay, played with beauty and verve by Mr. Hadelich. An evening of sparkling and delightful chamber music presented by two relaxed, personable and highly talented artists who definitely “click” together.
