The Santa Barbara Vocal Jazz Foundation has been running their VocalPoint program for 20 years, bringing “Journey Through Jazz” to Santa Barbara area schools for “…the education, preservation, performance and development of Vocal Jazz as an art form.” Students from elementary to high school ages are immersed in the history and the mechanics of jazz music in fun and swinging workshops covering many of the highlights of the development of America’s truly original contribution to the wonderful world of music. Each year there is a culminating performance at the Lobero Theatre where the participants get to really strut their stuff and have a blast doing it, giving brief historical intros to each new song, and then singing their hearts out.
