After many years of lessons, practicing and most likely some recitals, the next step for aspiring classical musicians is performing with a band, ensemble or orchestra. Schools usually provide the opportunity, but in Santa Barbara there is another option for those who are pretty serious about it: the Santa Barbara Youth Symphony. It’s the ultimate of numerous programs for youth sponsored by the Santa Barbara Symphony organization. SBYS rehearses once a week and gives a few performance a year, this one at the Lobero Theatre. There are more than a few moments when they sound amazingly good, a testament to their dedication and director and conductor Andy Radford’s skill at bringing out the best in them.
