…the kids loved it! The two young artists of the duo Black Violin happen to be classically trained on violin and viola, but they’ve taken it way beyond Mozart and Beethoven by mixing reinterpretations of some classical chestnuts with the beats and rapping of the currently uber popular and enduring form of hip hop. The young students lucky enough to get a couple of hours off from school in the north county filled the Granada Theatre for a flashy (and LOUD) show, part of the UCSB Arts and Lectures outreach program. The combination worked magic on the kids who whooped, hollered and danced in the aisles throughout the show, having more fun than any other outreach audience I’ve seen.
