After the fall. Post apocalyptic. The Simpsons? How might a new civilization begin to evolve and what part will current pop culture play in the rebuilding of it? Anne Washburn’s “Mr. Burns, A Post-Electric Play” posits that deeply held memories of a highly popular episode of The Simpsons are a good starting point to begin healing thru entertainment. Storytelling has always been an integral part of societal cohesiveness and the stories told reflect the values and concerns of a civilization, especially in times of trauma. So, what might the stories told in the future after an apocalypse be about, and what will they say about the memories that endure and become touchstones? Find out in Ms. Washburn’s dark comedy/musical March 4 – 12 at UCSB’s Hatlen Theater.
