Arlo Guthrie’s “Alice’s Restaurant 50th Anniversary Tour” brought the whole meal to the Lobero’s table April 7th. Daughter Sarah Lee served up a delicious set of hors d’oeuvres to get everyone in the mood, and she even got some assistance from husband Johnny Irion and their 2 daughters for a sweet family sing along.
After a claymation short featuring a motorsicle ridin’ pickle, Arlo took the stage with a band of neighbors (who also happen to be cracking good musicians) for a rollicking evening of his best-loved songs interspersed with his trademark wry and witty storytelling. Of course “Alice’s Restaurant” was in there too, but it was just the excuse for rest of the show, the “tonight’s special,” so to speak. The crowd went away satisfied they’d come to the right eatery.
A side note: the lighting and set, while suitably psychedelic was maybe a bit too high-tech for the character and content of the proceedings, but hey, this is 2016… Remember those overhead projector squishy light shows back in the day? Outta sight, man.
