Masterclasses are a regular feature of UCSB Arts & Lectures outreach program. Visiting artists impart valuable knowledge to college and high school students from around the Santa Barbara area. The lucky members of the Dos Pueblos Jazz Band were treated to a low-key but game-changing clinic by hot tenor sax man and band leader Kamasi Washington. The budding young jazz musicians were given great tips on soloing, building your vocabulary and paying attention to your fellow musicians to develop the necessary give and take to make great music. There were smiles all around afterwards.
