War, love, death, separation and the trials and tribulations of extreme hardship. Lynn Rosen’s Bernhard, inspired by the the torturous life of author Thomas Bernhard and current events, is this year’s offering from the UCSB Theater/Dance Department’s innovative Launch Pad program to give daring new works the time and space to develop a “Preview Production.” This is “unique in American theater: a fully realized production of a new play without the pressures of the commercial world, the play stays in previews throughout the run of the show, allowing the writer to continue revising as the piece evolves through performance.” What a wonderful and exciting experience for the talented actors and production team of the Theater/Dance Dept. to be intimately involved from the first read-throughs, and collaborate with professionals from the theater world!
